  16. What is OTTool?
  17. OTTool is a free utility which provides a synopsis of the AppleTalk and IP
  18. configuration parameters within Apple Computer's Open Transport networking
  19. architecture.  In addition, OTTool allows users on IP networks to make
  20. Domain Name Server (DNS) queries and ping devices using ICMP Pings.  This is
  21. a beta version of OTTool and we would like to hear your suggestions and
  22. comments regarding the software.  Please send your feedback to

  25. What changed in OTTool since version 1.0ｧ2?
  26. We received a lot of suggestions for improving OTTool from users. With
  27. version 1.0ｧ3, we tried to smooth out the user interface, especially for
  28. the much-used TCP/IP DNS queries. We added an Actions menu with
  29. command key equivalents for the Query and Ping buttons. We also added
  30. some more edit capabilities for the Query DNS section. Thanks for the
  31. suggestions, and keep them coming!

  33. AppleTalk and IP Configuration Parameters
  34. When launched, OTTool gathers the AppleTalk and IP network configuration
  35. parameters from your Macintosh and displays them in the OTTool window. The
  36. AppleTalk parameters are on the left side of the window and the IP
  37. parameters are on the right.  The following network information is retrieved:

  62. At the top of the ICMP Ping window is a set of three editable parameters
  63. contained within the following sentence:  "Send [A] packets with [B]
  64. second(s) interpacket delay waiting no more than [C] second(s) for a
  65. reply." [A] is the number of ICMP packets to send to the device,
  66. [B] is the number of seconds between each packet that is sent, and [C] is the
  67. number of seconds that OTTool should wait before considering a packet
  68. lost.

  70. Once you have set variables A, B, and C to your liking, click the Start
  71. button to begin pinging the device. As OTTool is pinging the device, the
  72. following real time information is displayed in the lower portion of the
  73. ICMP Ping window:
